Exciting plans for the school’s future

After 20 years of partnership with Cite Scolaire International Europole the American school of Grenoble has taken the momentous and exciting decision to move onto its own campus. This will enable the school to increase the school student body which in turn will enable us to expand our offer and program. Our objective is to take advantage of Grenoble’s position in the Silicon Valley of France, with its large and diverse multinational population, located in the magnificent environment of the Alpes, to create a truly independent international school offering an anglophone curriculum. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in the Grenoble ecosystem we want to promote learning about science and technology within the context of sustainable development.

Our ambitious plan will, of course, require substantial financial reserves. While some of this will come from tuition fees, we would like to keep these reasonable to promote equality and diversity. So we are seeking other sources of funding such as foundations. If you would like to be part of this exciting adventure and help us attain our goal please click on the donate button on our webpage.

ASG Welcomes a New Head of School

ASG has a new Head of School beginning with the 2020-21 School year! Mr. Patrick Owen is stepping up to help make this year a great one. Congratulations and welcome to the new post, Mr Owen!

We have a lot of work to do together and the staff, faculty and Board are looking forward to working with him to meet our challenges and deliver the best quality education possible to our students.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS IN GRENOBLE

In June 2019 ASG students had a fantastic couple of days building garden furniture and painting a mural for a local community garden.

“Chantiers Ouverts aux Publics” is an Association run by the City of Grenoble which works to improve community facilities with help from local communities.  In the Quartier Jean Mace our students provided that help in abundance.

Teachers and students had a great couple of days alongside local residents. We built a bench, a table, compost bins and a pergola. A small team of our students also created a wall mural. The City of Grenoble provided a wonderful picnic lunch.

I think we can say that students thoroughly enjoyed the day and were truly proud of the work they did.

Head of School, Carol Margaret Bitner commented “This type of project is something that our school has been looking for over several years. It is a chance for our students to learn new skills, volunteer their time in the service of others, speak French and to contribute to their local Grenoble community.”

We very much hope that this project will become an annual part of our program. Thank you to our students who worked hard over the two days. A huge vote of thanks goes to Mr. Petiot and Ali from the Association who both inspired and guided our students.

We thank the local Residents for allowing us this opportunity and had this lovely response from them:

“C’est nous qui vous remercions, Amanda, ainsi que tous vos élèves qui ont été formidables. Ali n’est pas prêt de les oublier, et nous non plus. Transmettez leur toute notre amitié et toute notre reconnaissance”

MISSING MAPS PROJECT 2018

ASG Students volunteered for the ‘Missing Maps Project’

Putting the World’s Vulnerable People on the Map:  http://www.missingmaps.org/

Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally ‘missing’ from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable people.

UNITED NATIONS MODEL CITIZENS

High School students from the American School of Grenoble & Cite Scolaire Internationale are participating in a Model United Nations Conference in Lyon in January 2018.

A Model United Nations is an extra-curricular activity in which students debate issues in circmstances very similar to UN conferences and committees. Thousands of middle school, high school, and college students around the world participate in Model United Nations.

The Conference is organized by the International School of Lyon and the Cité Scolaire Internationale of Lyon and is being held at the prestigious Hôtel de Région (in Lyon).

The Theme chosen for ILYMUN 2018 is “Cities” . As the global population continues to grow, action must be taken so that we can reach the UN-Habitat’s vision of a new urban future.

NASA SPONSORED ZERO ROBOTICS COMPETITION

Our High School students joined the competition in the Netherlands to create virtual robots which were then tested on in real time on REAL robots in the Space Station by Astronauts. What a great honor!  Pictured below our American School of Grenoble Team and the European Space Station astronaut testing the robots.
